YAKINIKU ~Japanese BBQ~
I went to YAKINIKU(焼き肉) yesterday.
YAKINIKU(焼き肉) is Japanese version of BBQ eating inside.
Japanese eat at home but eating in the restaurant is much better!
(Mostly beacause they use charcoal and good meat!)
I understand that if you go to a restaurant, you expect the waiter to server you everything.
But at YAKINIKU(焼き肉) restaurant…
no…
YOU server yourself.
It might sound strange to people in other countries, but this is a custom in Japan.
Not only YAKINIKU(焼き肉), there are SHABU-SHABU, SUKIYAKI… Japanese like to serve themselves.
This way, you get to eat in your pace, and you can chose how well your food to be cooked.
I assume that many of you get perplexed… so, I made a short movie of “How to eat Japanese YAKINIKU”!

先日焼き肉を食べに行きました。
焼き肉とは、屋内で食べるバーベキューの日本版です。
日本人は、家庭でも食べますが、レストランで食べたほうがもっとおいしいです。
（その理由は、炭で焼いていることと、おいしい肉を使っているからです）
多くの皆さんは、レストランに行ったらウェイターがすべてやってくれることを期待しているかもしれません。
しかし、焼き肉屋さんでは、、、
違います。
自分自身で行います。
他の国の人は不思議に思うかもしれませんが、これが日本の慣習です。
焼き肉だけでなく、「しゃぶしゃぶ」や「すき焼き」など・・・日本人は自分で行うことを好みます。
そのほうが、自分のペースでご飯が食べれるし、自分の好きな焼き加減で食べれるからです。
海外の皆さんはこの慣習に戸惑うことかと思います。
なので、「How to eat Japanese YAKINIKU!」という短い動画を作りました。
動画を楽しみ、日本に来た時にはぜひ食べてみてくださいね！

EARTHQUATE IN JAPAN; Has been 1yr, still long way to go…
It has been 1 year since the earthquake and tsunami happened in Japan.
Thank you very much to those people who have concerned and donated to Japan.
Today,I have translated one of the site which writes about earthquake and tsunami in JAPAN.

Although every thing flushed this far, all I can say is, “Never let your heart break and move on”.

– What are they going to do with debris?
– What will happen to those places after debris will be removed.
– How will someone do with those damaged cars?
– The number of volunteers have decreased(maybe less that 10% of the max number).
– The difference between rich and poor.
– What kind of help will be the best in the future?
– I want everyone to know that there are people who became, poor, bankrupt, divorced, sick through help improving the damage of the earthquake.
– There are people who cannot recover because of no money…

Do you know KOTATSU(こたつ) ~Japanese Tradition~
KOTATSU(こたつ) is a unique heater used frequetly in Japan.
Kotatsu is a low table covered by a futon, or heavy blanket. Underneath is a heat source, often built into the table itself. People put their legs under the table and is very comfortable and cozy!
Japanese usually use this in the season of fall to winter. In Tokyo it is getting warmer but in Akita, Kotatsu is still necessary!!!

こたつは、よく使（つか）われる日本特有（にほんとくゆう）の暖房器具（だんぼうきぐ）です。
こたつとは、布団（ふとん）やブランケットで低（ひく）いテーブルをカバーしたものです。テーブルの下（した）に暖房（だんぼう）がついています。人々（ひとびと）は、足（あし）を机（つくえ）の下（した）に入（い）れます。とても心地（ここち）よく、気持（きも）ちがいいです！
日本人（にほんじん）は、秋（あき）から冬（ふゆ）にかけて使（つか）うことが多（おお）いです。東京（とうきょう）ではだいぶ暖（あたた）かくなってきましたが、秋田（あきた）ではまだこたつが必要（ひつよう）です。

YAKISOBA~焼そば~ (Japanese Traditional Food)
It isn’t exactly “traditional” food… but YAKISOBA is popular in Japan.
Yakisoba is a mixture of noodles and vegetables and meat (As you wish!).
Very very simple to make.
Just cut the vegetables & meat, cook, add the noodles… and here you go!
Japanese make this at home, eat out side, is a very popular food for selling at stand.
There exist a sandwich too! ( It is called “Yakisoba-pan”.)

Do you know NATTO?
Natto is a traditional Japanese food made from beans.
To explain it simply, NATTO is a rotten beans.
Yes, some people say that it stinks(yes, many foreigners say this),
but it is very good for your health and tates good when you get used to it!
Please don’t get scared! It’s same as yogurt, “rotten milk = yogurt”,
“rotten beans = NATTO”…no?
So, let’s imagine making it!
This is the famaous “OKAME NATTO”.

Mix it with your chop sticks…

and… Here you go!
Not too difficult? It’s very simple.
We usually enjoy it with Japanese cooked rice!
